


1. Early On is a statewide system for coordinating programs and services for families of children birth through 3 years when there are concerns about the health or development of their infant or toddler.
Services are available to families for free, regardless of income. Services include screenings, evaluations and service coordination. Services can be provided in the child’s home, a child care setting or in various playgroups.

3. Children with autism may be able to qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits if their symptoms are severe enough and their families meet the SSI income and asset limits. Adults with autism can also qualify for disability benefits—whether through the SSI program or from Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)—depending on their work history and earnings record.

While the Social Security Administration has recently expanded its online disability application process for SSI applicants, the agency still requires childhood SSI applicants to apply in person or over the phone. You can call 800-772-1213 (TTY 800-325-0778 for those who are deaf or hard of hearing) from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, to speak with a Social Security representative. Or, you can make an in-person appointment at your local Social Security field office

The Family Support Subsidy (FSS) is a community-based, family-centered support service that makes it possible for children with developmental disabilities to remain with and to return to their birth or adoptive families. The subsidy provides a monthly payment ($300.36) that the family must spend on special needs that occur as a result of caring for a child with a severe disability at home.
